The danger pay allowance provides additional compensation for employees serving at designated danger pay posts. It is paid as a percentage of basic compensation in 15, 25 and 35% increments. In addition to being paid to permanently-assigned personnel, danger pay may also be paid to employees on temporary duty or detail to the post.
Technically, DSSR rules do not apply to consultants, as they are not employees. In reality, organizations generally pay danger pay to consultants as well (using DSSR as a basis for establishing reasonableness).
