On Thursday, February 13, 2025, Peter Marocco, the director of the Office of Foreign Assistance (F Bureau) at the State Department, hosted a “listening session” with various stakeholders. The event brought together implementing partners, government officials, and representatives from think tanks.
During the session, Marocco revealed that several awards had been scrapped in order to align with President Donald Trump’s executive order on diversity, equity, and inclusion. He described these awards as either “illegal” or lacking meaningful value. However, the details surrounding the review process for these awards remain unclear, as the State Department has yet to comment on the matter.
All decisions are anticipated to be finalized by April 19.
