Message from Tessie San Martin CEO at FHI 360
Yesterday I shared the news that we were terminating employment for about 480 employees in the U.S., including more than 140 in North Carolina where we are headquartered. These latest staff reductions come on top of thousands of additional terminations in more than 30 countries, all due to sudden project closures and ongoing unpredictability in payment for work done.
To employees who were impacted: Thank you. There is no doubt that your contributions have helped advance health, education and opportunity in communities around the world.
To our colleagues across sectors: If you come across these individuals’ resumes, please take a close look. They are among the most passionate, skilled and mission-driven professionals I’ve had the honor to work with. Any organization would be lucky to have them.
FHI 360 is not alone in experiencing this type of impact. Foreign service nationals, USAID staff, colleagues in our sector, and technical experts worldwide are all part of what has been an important sector in the U.S. economy. This sector has not only saved lives overseas and kept us safe at home, but also enabled the U.S. to develop, maintain and benefit world-class scientific knowledge and research, such as the formidable biomedical research capabilities developed in North Carolina.
FHI 360’s work remains more critical than ever. We are steadfast in our commitment to our mission, grateful for our colleagues and partners, and ready to meet what’s next.
